Reverse Osmosis (RO) antiscalant is a chemical additive used in reverse osmosis water treatment systems to prevent the formation of scale deposits. When water is treated through reverse osmosis, it passes through a semi-permeable membrane that removes contaminants, minerals, and impurities. However, some dissolved minerals can precipitate and form scale deposits on the membrane surface, reducing its efficiency and lifespan.
Antiscalants work by inhibiting the formation of these scale deposits. They contain chemicals that interfere with the crystallization process of minerals, preventing them from adhering to surfaces and forming scale. Commonly used compounds in RO antiscalants include phosphonates, polyphosphates, and other proprietary blends.
